# The Calibrated Authority Index

> A living corpus coding how knowledge institutions construct trust in generative AI. Each institution's public AI policy is coded on six dimensions (D1-D6) into a composite Calibrated Authority (CA) score 0-12, plus posture, verification-boundary fit, trust-logic, and twilight markers. The observational, observed-in-the-wild evidence for the trust-formation-divergence thesis: trust forms by divergent mechanisms driven by verification economics.

## The thesis in three lines
1. Trust forms by divergent mechanisms: Calibrated Authority (evidential, traceable
   proof) vs Anticipatory Reciprocity (relational, forward-looking).
2. The split is driven not by substrate but by VERIFICATION ECONOMICS:
   cheap-proof -> evidential/fungible trust; scarce-proof -> relational trust.
3. This corpus is the observed-in-the-wild evidence: 55 knowledge institutions,
   each coded on six dimensions into a Calibrated Authority score (mean 9.8/12).
